An author with no readers

I’ve mentioned this several times on this website. I’ve been writing stuff for twenty years, but I haven’t had many readers. In the beginning, however, I shared everything, as I signed up for creative writing school. It’s an experience I recommend to anyone whose hobby is writing. Learning to compose stories, dialogues, scenes, climaxes, how to give and accept constructive criticism, sharing your writing with other people like you… All of this is invaluable in this world, and, I admit, I’ve missed it since. Learning to accept that your writing is complete crap and that you have to work hard to make it palatable to those outside your own brain is just as important as having the desire and time to write. Going to creative writing workshops is as valuable as reading in training as a writer. My “literature” classmates (as I like to call them), who I count as friends, have read, or rather, listened to, my first “shit”. My partners have read some shit. My roommates, some of them, have read some of it. And that’s about it. Few people, to say the least. And I want that to change. Because I feel like taking myself seriously for once. Believe that I’m actually an author.

I have a lot of “shit” stored away, most of it real literary excrement, but among it all, there are some things I really like. Enough to want to share them. And that’s why I created this website, to give myself visibility, to create a reader list, so that interested people can purchase my writing.

For a long time, I’ve limited myself to writing as a pastime, as a hobby. And I’ve enjoyed it. If the stories, or novels, I wrote met the criteria for a literary contest, I’d submit them. My shit has proven poor contest material, haha. I’ve won a few third place prizes, a few runner-up prizes, and a few special mentions. Let’s say my ego hasn’t gone crazy. I think that today, a positive review on Goodreads will make me a thousand times happier.

I have so many things stored away that, with a lot of editing, I can compile several anthologies of stories. One in each genre I’ve written in: Humour, Horror, Science Fiction, Realism, and Erotica. But first, I have to show people what I do and how I do it. Enter “Mis mierdas” (My Shit, which I’d like to translate into English soon). My cover letter. My reader magnet (whether it attracts or repels them). My Shit is a mix of all genres (except erotica, because it didn’t fit here) so that people can judge for themselves. Whatever the verdict, I’ll finally have readers for my writing.

If you can read Spanish, subscribe to the Newsletter and you can read “Mis mierdas” digitally (eBook). You can also buy it in paperback version in the shop on this website. If you like what you read in Mis mierdas, or any part of the book, there are more collections to come; you’ll definitely like one of them. Through the newsletter, I’ll keep you informed about future publications, without spamming (promise). And it won’t just be collections of my old short stories. Also novels and graphic novels, and who knows what else. Follow me on social media (links below). Come join me on this literary journey. And if you think my “shit” is, well, shit, then recommend me to someone who likes this kind of shit.

Hi, my name is Dave G. Finch. I have a book. Want to read it?

Hugs,

Dave.
